J. Wilson McCallister received his BA degree in government from Florida State University in 1964. After serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Bolivia (1964-66), he entered the University of Iowa School of Law, and received his JD degree in 1969. He entered the private law practice in June 1969, as an Assistant Dubuque County Attorney. He subsequently admitted to partnership in the firm of Cooney, McCallister & Zwack, Dubuque, Iowa, where he was engaged in the general practice of law.

From 1971 to 1978 Mr. McCallister was a part-time instructor of business law at Loras College, and in 1972, served as Juvenile Referee for Judicial District 1-A by appointment of the Iowa District Court.

In 1981 he joined the John Deere Law Department, Moline, Illinois. As Associate General Counsel he managed the Company's product litigation, early dispute resolution program, mergers and acquisition activities, and special litigation. His experience includes all phases of the practice, including the prosecution and defense of civil litigation at the trial and appellate court levels, alternate dispute resolution, and general corporate practice. He retired from the active practice of law in 2003, and in 2006 was a part-time instructor of Business Law at St. Ambrose University, Davenport, Iowa.
